FlightCraft Simulations have just released a free FS2004 AI Vulcan Tanker add-on module for their 2004 Avro Vulcan Collection.
This FS2004 add-on consists of a fully functional AI version of the Vulcan K.2 Tanker, together with traffic tracks and four adventure scenarios that allow simmers to try their skills at intercepting and connecting with the tanker. Flight simmers who are familiar with TrafficTools are encouraged to use the AI Tanker in traffic tracks of their own.
The AI Tanker features full moving parts, reflective surfaces and dynamic shine, operating braking parachute, as well as accurate night lighting and working guidance lights. Refueling hose will automatically deploy above an altitude of 10,000 feet.
ABOUT THE AVRO VULCAN K.2 TANKER:
Requested by the MoD during the Falklands war to supplement the overworked RAF tanker force, many of the remaining Vulcan B.2s were converted into tanker aircraft. The large bomb bay made an ideal location to house three huge fuel tanks. The rear ECM housing was emptied and the hose drum unit (HDU), a Mk 17 HDU, installed. The conversion was achieved in record time and took only 51 days from the initial request to being in service!
The HDU was connected to the fuel system, and to a hose ending in a drogue (housed in box structure underneath the rear fuselage) which helped stabilise the hose and was used as a target for the receiver aircraft. Radio contact between the two aircraft was unnecessary as a system of lights on the tanker could be used to inform the receiving aircraft of how the process was progressing. White areas were painted underneath the wings to aid the pilot of the receiver aircraft to line up prior to refueling. The rate that fuel could be pumped from the tanker aircraft was around 500 gallons a minute.
The AI Vulcan Tanker and the accompanying traffic tracks and scenarios are free for purchasers of FlightCraft Simulations' 2004 Avro Vulcan Collection, which presents 14 high-resolution models covering the entire history of this great bomber. Features include:
- Super-detailed, high-polygon-count visual model;
- Accurate flight model, tested by an ex-Vulcan instructor and optimized for either FS2002 or FS2004;
- 14 paint schemes of operational versions including prototype, B.1, B.2, B.2(MIRR) and K.2 tanker;
- Dynamic shine and reflective textures;
- Animated control surfaces, accurate landing gear retraction, opening crew-access hatch (with operating ladder), operating braking parachute; rotating engine fans;
- Detailed virtual cockpit with working controls, panel and gauge lighting, operating anti-glare screens;
- CFS2 version with droppable armaments including Blue Danube, Yellow Sun and WE.177 nuclear bombs; Blue Steel and Skybolt standoff-weapons; and the Falklands War Black Buck versions carrying conventional bombs or Shrike anti-radiation missiles;
