    Project Opensky Atlas Air B747-400F

Posted on Tuesday, April 01 @ 20:22:02 BST by darklord

Flight Simulator 2002 Project Opensky came onto the scenes more than two years back and since then this group of talented and committed FS Aircraft Designers has revolutionised the Flight Sim designer community. Their 747s have been the most popular of their variety of aircraft and have been in constant development. The latest version of their 747-400s is the version 3 which comprises of different variants such as the -400, -400D, -400 Combi and the -400 Freighter. Learn more by reading Ali Mujtaba's complete and amazing review of the Project Opensky Atlas Air B747-400F here.

Project Opensky Atlas Air B747-400F Review

    by Ali Mujtaba

I'll be reviewing the -400F as it offers a variety of visual eye candy and other enhancements. So without further ado I would like to present to you the Project Open Sky's Atlas Air 747-400F.

The 747-400F as you all know is an all Cargo variant which is used by different airline and charter companies for transportation of freight across the world. The features which distinguish it from the original passenger variant is the shortened upper deck- similar to the -100/200. Other features are an opening front nose, a cargo door located at the rear of the fuselage and a full windowless fuselage. Project Opensky have done a remarkable job by designing this aircraft with accurate visuals from the big massive fuselage right down to the small antennae. The aircraft looks like the real thing from all angles - an exceptional quality which has earned POSKY laurels from every quarters of the Simming community. In addition to the accurate visuals and Flight Dynamics, this aircraft comes with realistic control surface animations which can be compared to the real thing. It also comes with dynamic wing views- a feature which has been missing since the departure of FS98 from the FS Scenes. An encouraging sign for the " Passenger oriented " Flight Simmer. The aircraft comes with three different liveries of the same company which have been accuratelty painted with night light effects and reflection effects by the POSKY team depicting.the real thing.

" TIME DEFINITE AIRFREIGHT " LIVERY

POSKY 747-400F showing off its Time Definite livery. Notice the Tail livery is painted in blank blue color..

ATLAS AIR LIVERY- OLD AND NEW

POSKY 747-400F showing off its old and new " ATLAS AIR " liveries. The difference between the liveries is the change of color in the " Air Title " and the engine colors..

    The cockpit

The cockpit has been designed immaculately with night lighting effects. If you look a bit closer you can see the flight crew and the flight deck.

    Vertical and Horizontal Stablizers

This is a closeup of the aircraft Tail, Rudder, Elevators and the APU. All these have been designed with great perfection. Also notice the antennaes on the horizontal Stabilzer.

    The Wings

One of the greatest features of FS2002 has been the introduction of flexing wings on jetliners. POSKY have taken the opportunity by adding this feature to their marvellous 747-400s. The wings also feature accurate flap and slat animations. In addition they have also added wing views for the passenger conscious Flight Simmer.

    The Under Carriage

An FS2002 Aircraft is judged by how the Under Carriage is designed. Here Posky have done the good bit by designing the 747 undercarriage right down to its animation along with suspending and tilting bogies with extreme accuracy. No part has been left untouched and it resembles the real thing. The animation sequence is extremely accurate depicting the real thing.

    The Engines

One of the best aspects I like about POSKY is how well they design aircraft engines for different variants. Like their 767s, POSKY have done an excellent job by making the massive GE CF6-80C2B15F2 engines for the 747-400F. The Engines also feature the Reverse Thrust function. Press F2 to see them in action.

    The Cargo Doors

Now this is the real part which so distinguishes the -400F variant from the original -400- Opening Nose door, Cargo doors etc. They have been rendered immaculately with accurate animations. You can also see the cargo palletes with night lighting and photo real textures. The key commands for the door animations are Shift+E, Shift+T and Shift+F..

    Comments

In the end I would just like to congratulate POSKY on yet another excellent Aircraft design. One of the great qualities of POSKY is that all their addons are free and the committment they put in their designs is simply unparrallell and I dare say their addons are better than most commercial addons.

    Pro & Cons

The aircraft looks great from all angles. It has been accurately designed and features realistic animations, reflective textures and night lighting. However ig you look at he engine fans from wingviews you experience slight bleed throughs. I would also like to see a Virtual Cockpit and if possible a Virtual cabin. All in all I would like to give full marks and a thumbs up to the POSKY team for a job well done.
