World-Flight is a fund raising event in which a group of volunteer flightsim enthusiasts fly around the world. The group is looking for donations and corporate sponsors. For more information, click on Read More.
We are a group of aviation enthusiasts that fly a home-built commercial jet aircraft cockpit simulator around the world in order to raise money for children's charities.
Our team is made up from people from all walks of life and from all over the world. We have members who travel from abroad to be with us, this includes Denmark, Canada, USA and France. Their real jobs include, Drivers, Airline pilots, Radio newscaster and even a MD of one of the UK's biggest airports. We all play our special part to ensure the smooth operation of the event.
How do we raise money? Well that's simple, our members ask their friends and family to sponsor them, we also ask companies to show there support by making donations, but none of this goes into the upgrading or maintenance of the simulator, all funds donated go to the charity. We also take donations via the website, so please show us your support during the event at www.world-flight.org
What About This Year?
For our fifth birthday and sixth event, world-Flight 2004 will depart 8th November 2004 from London Heathrow in the UK and will arrive back on 14th November, but remember it is simulated and the team that is made up of people from all walks of life and from several countries around the globe, from lorry drivers to airline pilots, computer programmers to managing directors, all of whom will not actually be leaving sunny Sutton...
During this World-Flight we shall be landing at airports world wide and will stay for about an hour at each, where we shall have a crew change and refuel our virtual aircraft before continuing on our journey.
The World-Flight event is flown entirely on-line using the vatsim network. This means that we connect to a server which sends the real world weather to us in our simulated environment, also on this network are other flight simulator enthusiasts flying their desk top computers in this virtual world. To ensure that we do not collide with any other virtual aircraft, we have real time simulated Air Traffic Control which is taken care of by controllers who are also flight simulator enthusiasts and are based in their homes all over the world. So while we are flying in Australian airspace we will have the joys of the Australian weather and be directed by Australian Air Traffic Controllers.
Dreamflight is a registered UK charity whose purpose is to send seriously ill children on their 'holiday of a lifetime' to Florida. While many charities devote their energies to funding long term research projects or the purchase of medical equipment, we think it is just as important to bring some fun and joy into the lives of children whose illnesses and treatments have brought pain distress and disruption to their lives.
We are looking for corporations to sponsor us in the form of a donation.
During the event, we will be posting a write up along with pictures of the event. You can track our position during the world flight by viewing some of our pages.
