Flight Simulator X Prepar3D

FSX native B-36 Peacemaker. Built by consolidated vultee (Convair) in the late forties, The Convair B-36 Peacemaker was the largest American bomber every produced. Development of the huge plane began in 1941. The Army Air Force wanted a bomber that could fly from the United States to Europe, drop bombs, then return. The prototype first flew on August 8, 1946. The first operational models were delivered to the Strategic Air Command 1948.

B-36 Peacemaker in flight artwork.​Included in this file are versions, A, B, D, H, and J models. The A and B versions are textured in FS9 style polished metal textures. Includes a virtual cockpit based on the B-36B cockpit, with a few updated and modern instruments, and a full gauge panel on the engineer station. custom sounds taken from scenes in the movie "strategic air command."

Installation

To install this model into FSX or FSX: SE follow this simple procedure:

  1. Extract the provided zip file in a temporary folder.
  2. Copy the folder Convair B36 Peacemaker into the Aircraft folder of FSX.
  3. Copy the contents of effects folder into the effect folder of FSX.
  4. Copy the contents of sounds folder into the sound folder of FSX.

How to install this mod

FSX / P3D add-on

  1. Extract the downloaded archive

    Use 7-Zip (free) or WinRAR to extract the ZIP to a temporary folder. Don't install while still zipped — the simulator can't read inside ZIP files.

  2. Place files per the readme

    Most FSX add-ons go into one of: SimObjects\Airplanes\, Addon Scenery\, Effects\, or Gauges\.

  3. Always read the included readme

    Every mod ships with a readme.txt or README file. It tells you exactly where files go, what dependencies are needed, and any quirks specific to this add-on.

Looks beautiful with highly polished bare metal skins. Bombay opens and closes. Seems a little too lightweight and maneuverable when heavily loaded. Sounds incredibly real, but can't figure out how to control the 4 jet engines.

    Nice plane but how do I get the reflective textures to work in FSX since instead of appearing reflective it just looks super bright and that ruins the plane.

    To Gary Shetter: I am an 87-year-old USAF retired military guy (31 yrs.) who worked and flew on the RB-36 in the early 1950s. I have downloaded and installed b-36_peacemaker.zip and have a texture problem with the D to J models.

    I have MSFSX v. 10.0.61637.0 installed. The textures on these models only show correctly on the jet pods and props. The entire rest of the aircraft is white in color. I have tried turning DX 10 off, and moving the Shaders folder out, everything recommended that I could find online to no avail. I am not an expert in this FSX but I am trying.

    If you have anything that could help I would appreciate it as time is slipping by at a faster rate at this age. (LOL). Al Zimmermann (Retired USAF/USNR)

    This flies nicely. It sounds great. All versions look great, even in DX10 Preview mode with Steve Parsons' DX10 scenery fix. Squeaky brakes just before stopping are nice to hear.
