Architecture Of The Airport Building
Presently, Vilnius Airport is a complex of buildings of two different architectural styles. The old building, which was designed by the architects Dmitry Burdin and Genady Yelkin, was constructed in 1954. It features the monumental architectural details of Soviet forms. This typical Soviet neo-classical building reflects the architectural tendencies of the time.

After the restoration of Lithuanian independence in 1990, the construction of a new airport terminal was started. The architects reconstructed the old building and skilfully joined it with the new architectural complex. The authors of the new architectural solution are Algimantas Alekna, Gintautas Telksnys, Leonardas Vaitys and Gediminas Navickas, the chief engineer of the project. The original architecture has a touch of postmodernism, however High-Tech elements prevail. Glass structures connect the new and the old buildings.
