Just Flight is pleased to announce that they are to publish SR-71 Blackbird. Developed by PILOT’S, SR-71 Blackbird is a faithful re-creation for Flight Simulator 2004 of the most amazing aircraft ever to grace the skies.
Fast? The SR-71 certainly was! How about New York to London in under two hours and London to LA in less time than it takes to drive from London to Manchester? The Blackbird remains in the record books to this day and it’s unlikely that an aeroplane will ever be built that goes any faster. SR-71 Blackbird is heading for FS2004 and there will soon be another chance to approach 3000mph at 85,000 feet.
As you’d expect with a unique aircraft, there are plenty of unique features. The accurate flight model reflects the SR-71’s ability to fly at nearly three times the speed of sound and peer down on the earth from altitudes that look like a misprint. The aircraft bristles with animations and accurate detail; features include opening cockpit canopies, afterburners, the distinctive three-wheel landing gear, a functioning HUD and even the Blackbird’s trademark dripping fuel is modelled.
Just Flight’s product manager for SR-71 Blackbird, Martin Wright, said: “The SR-71 is an aviation icon and this is a marvellous opportunity for us to publish a simulation that really does justice to such an amazing plane. Let’s face it, although satellites have made these awesome machines redundant, they don’t really compare in the excitement stakes. Flying the Blackbird was an incredible experience for real aviators and with this excellent expansion we’ll be able to give virtual pilots the same thrills.”
