Hundreds of spectators were present at Sydney's Kingsford Smith Airport to watch the first commercial flight of the humongous Airbus A380 super jumbo land. There was plenty of exitement at the airport's observation deck and inside the terminal too. Coincidentally, Abacus staff member Arnie Lee was in Sydney too and was able to record the event:
Last week, Airbus Industries delivered the first A380 to launch customer Singapore Airlines.
Today, Singapore Airlines flew the A380 on a special flight. Designated as SQ380, the aircraft left Singapore at about 8AM with 455 passengers. All tickets were sold via auction on eBay to raise money for charity. In all, more than $1.5 Million was raised and will be shared by two Sydney-based hospital.
Seven and one-half hours later, the huge double-deck aircraft touched down in Sydney, only one of a handful of airports around the world able to handle this oversized monster.
