One aspect of gaming that flight simulation often struggles to deliver on is the thrill of competition. Impromptu tests of flying skill can often be programmed into in-game missions, but can be difficult to replicate the excitement and thrill of competing against one's fellow enthusiasts in an event that involves every aspect of flight simulation - or rather, that was the case until a few years ago.
Those new to the flight simulation community might not know that there is an annual event, in which any flight simulator pilot is free to participate in, that tests the prowess of individual pilots and the strategic mettle of teams against other pilots and teams, in real time.
This event, the Microsoft Flight Simulator Around-The-World Race (RTWR), aims to be a sort of "Super Bowl" of flight simulation. Pilots from every corner of the globe come together into teams organized around each of the top flight simulation web sites. These teams each aim to advance their virtual "baton" around the world in the shortest time possible, while completing various challenges along the way to earn time credits.
We invite you to join the ranks of FlightSim.Com's Around-The-World Race team - the reigning champions of the RTWR - as they aim to repeat last year's victory. The Multiplayer Adventures forum is the place to go to announce your availability for the race and join in on the team's ongoing preparations.
More information on the race, as well as a page where you can get real-time updates on each team's progress, can be found on its official web site.
