On Monday November 3 at 0200 UTC the WF2003 Australia crew will depart Sydney (YSSY) on its epic flight around the world in 43 legs travelling some 41,000nm in seven days. World Flight Australia is conducted each year to raise money for the ROYAL FLYING DOCTOR SERVICE which provides a valuable medical service to remote areas in Australia.
17 pilots drawn from over 50 applicants with several travelling from the UK, Netherlands and Germany, will crew the full scale B747-400 fixed base simulator, QF25.
Our website www.worldflight.ozflight.com.au has been improved greatly from last year and not only can you book seats on each leg but you will actually be able to place yourself in front of the pilots and view the dynamic PFD, Upper EICAS and a position report which is updated every few seconds so that you can see what is happening live in the cockpit. A moving map, arrival and departure boards are also available to keep up with events for the duration of the flight.
Catering is provided by Gate Gourmet, supplemented by regular onsite barbecues with a "bottomless" keg of draught beer from which the crew draw their much needed fluids to stop high altitude dehydration.
Why not join us on line (flight plans available for d/l) or book a seat from the website and come for the ride to assist us with raising money for the RFDS, a very worthy cause.
