Following in its tradition of creating detailed simulator tutorials for complex add-on products, Visual Reference releases the first of a three part series for the new Garmin 530 simulations for Microsoft's Flight Simulator.
This first series includes over 30MB of video - some 70 short clips on different aspects of the 530's operation. The approximately 2 hour 15 minutes of video will begin to bring you up to speed. If used in conjunction with the Garmin manual for the 530 (over 200 pages in length), you will be busy for quite some time.
Why three parts? The short answers are - We think 30 MB is big enough for one gulp. We want you to get accustomed to the controls and various Group functions before getting all botched up. FSAvionics is preparing 2.0 and Reality XP is just about to come out with 1.1... We're guessing the functionality of several sections will be changing in the next few weeks and there is no sense wasting time doing this twice.
You'll have plenty to keep you busy with this first series. The real goodies come later in series two, where we do some review, pick up some loose ends and introduce any new features introduced between now and then. The third and final series will take you flying with the knowledge you've gained from the earlier sets.
Video Format: In the interests of keeping you from a terabyte of downloads, and providing common ground, we've used the Windows Media Player which is included on most of your systems. While there is significant loss of video and audio quality from the original files, our 12 step process does provide acceptable audio and video in a manageable sizes. May we suggest those of you with XP download the latest player? It's free and can be obtained directly from Microsoft via the above link.
Compatibility: While these videos are based on the FsAvionics version, there are only small differences between the two products so you should find them useful no matter which version you use. We contacted Jim Rhodes at Flight1 several times in the hopes of using his Meridian model of the 530 as well, but unfortunately for all of us Jim never replied.
Samples are available from the Visual Reference site and we strongly suggest you test the quality of the video, and their potential use to you before considering purchasing the product.
Next Release Date: We anticipate that Series Two will be out no later than the 2nd week in March, followed shortly thereafter (depending on the new versions release) by the final Take Flight videos.
