The R3 carried two Mk108 cannons in the upper nose in place of the weak 4xMg17. Serial Production started by September 1943 although similar pre-series aircraft under the designation G-2/U9 had already been in production for a couple of month. Operated by 70^ Squadriglia, 23° gruppo caccia,3° stormo Cerveteri ,Rome,august 1943. On the white band,the "Vespa arrabbiata" (angry wasp) of the 23°G.C. The lack of the fasces insigna on the wings is because the period is after july,25,1943,the fall of fascist government, so this aircraft has only the Savoia king cross.
