I did a flight from oakland (KOAK) to Salt Lake city Intl (KSLC) this morning with real world weather. The weather in Salt Lake gave me a bit of a suprice it was snowing and vis was down to 1/2 a mile or less

PS, why is there blue smoke on touchdown? Umm...

Las Vegas is what we call "high desert" and yes it can snow there as well as other high desert areas. It can get cold at night during the winter but boiling hot during the summer days.
