Hi all,
I've downloaded the demo, 'successfully' installed it, but when I click on the shortcut, I get an error message saying:
'The MSXML4 SP2 component is not installed. Please reinstall FS to restore or repair this missing component.'
I've uninstalled and reinstalled but it still happens. Can someone PLEEEEEASE tell me what's gone wrong here???
(I copied & pasted the msxml.dll file from my fs9 into the fsx demo folder but that doesn't help either)
Thanks |

Thanks for the reply.
I don't even know what SP2 is.
I deleted an 'msxml4' folder (though it contained nothing) then downloaded and installed msxml4 again but the problem's still there.
To be honest I'm totally baffled. I was sooo looking forward to see the difference between fs9 and fsx. |

SP2 is service pack 2. For instance you get XP SP1/SP2Captain Nick |

Go to the top of the browser and click on help and about internet explorer.
That will tell you SP1 or SP2.

| No it's not a problem with Windows SP2. It's a problem with MicroSoft XML |

Do you have SP1 and 2 installed?
Go to Windows update and download all updates, including .Net if you need to.

Hey guys.....
I have the same issue...cant get Flightsimx demo to run
"The MSXML4 SP2 component is not installed. Please reinstall Flight Simulator to restore or repair this missing component."
Its not missing....i can see it Add/Remove programs as succesfully installed....must be a bug with the demo itself.
Hopefully a fix/patch will be issued soon as i wont by a game if the Demo dont work!!!!!

Same with me ..have the new demo but still get the same error.
Have tried instlaiing Msxlm again but still no go.
If you look at the System event logs there is a reference to msxml 2 (sidebyside) error before the msxml4 error....
NOT GOOD ENOUGH Microsoft...

I've read all that about MSXML sp2 and it means nothing to me tbh...
I'm seriously doubting even buying FSX now, if this isn't fixed
Suppose I'm gonna have to contact Microsoft and wait next year for a reply....
Thanks anyway... |

just solved the MSXML problem!!!
Don't know exactly how, but this is what I did:
1- Installed the MSXML 4 SP2 from microsoft's website
2- Uninstalled FSX demo
3- Reinstalled FSX demo
now it works! |

A possible solution.
I searched for all files on my PC with msxml4*.* and deleted them and renamed the ones that i couldnīt delete
Rebooted the PC.
Then I reinstalled the distribution of msxml that came with the demo.
Too bad im at work and doing it by remote desktop so i canīt be sure it works, but i donīt ge the same msxml4 sp2 error anymore. So it seems like it has fixed the problem.

Let me guess. You finally installed SP2. How many years has that been available. People who do not keep their security updates current, should not be allowed on the internet. They are a danger to everyone else and don't even realize it.
Now, if I am wrong, which updates did you actually install??CrashGordon

Glad to have been able to help FL9...thats the one that worked for me.
Crashgordon...dont be so quick to criticise...as you can see it was nothing to do with XP Service Pack 2

True, but SQL Server Feature Pack MSXML 4.0 SP2 Security Update (925672) 11 October 2006 Automatic Updates is post hoc, ergo propter hoc. If that were truly the problem, then many people would have experienced difficulty prior to October 11th.CrashGordon

many people have expericanced the same error...
Try Googling it crashgordon..you will see its a worldwide issue..
Spain, norway, germany, eastern europe...all the same msxml error.
Words from my contacts in Microsoft is that an msxml component may have been broken prior to he Flightsimx install...but nothing changes the fact that it was an xml error..not a SP2 error.
