I have to stay within £150 on the processor (I will upgrade at the beginning of '07 (after christmas)) I am getting a motherboard compatiable for use with the Conroe chip already so:
Which Intel chip do I get (or AMD if it is better and in same price range.)

A) Intel Core 2 DUO E6300 "Allendale" 1.86GHz

OR

B) Intel Pentium 4 945 Dual Core "Presler" 3.4GHz

?????

As usual thanks ever so much for the help!

Have a look at these AMD Dual Core Top 2 are under £150 & are AMD X2 Socket AM2 Processors. You will need to get an AM2 Motherboard.

AMD Dual Core Socket 939 motherboard required.

I've had AMD for just under a yr and I highly reconmend them. When I had an Intel P4 3.02Ghz I wasn't getting as nearly as good FPS on FS9 as I am with my AMD Athlon 2.22Ghz CPU.

My 2 penny's worth. The choice is yours. People recommend the Conroe chip but AMD are going to come back and wipe Intel again.

So what is the difference between AM2 and 939?

Is one quicker?

AMD chips will fall in price before they counter this Intel duel core chip(but when?)

And thats the rub,AMD have always offered more bang for your buck, untill now, they just cant make a loud enough bang
Just as I was about to rebuild my PC Intel show us the way to go(for now)

My PC is well over due a major refit,do I wait for AMD to play catch up?

Umm... I cant see that happening some how
