Ipod question

Well recently I got a new harddrive and everything got removed. Well my itunes was with it and I am not sure if I install Itunes again all my song will be erased. Is this true or can someone help me out here?

same whith me just reinstall itunes and if u still have all your songs on your ipod when you plug it in in should say would you like to put these songs on you itunes to restore them or something like that
