Here we have a Alitalia Boeing 747 soaring through a patch of clouds. Alitalia is the flag carrier and main airline for Italy. This model of 747 is most likely an older 200 series, the most common and more current 747 is the 400 series. The name Alitalia literally translates to Wings Italy. Its home base is at the main airport in Italy, Rome Leonardo da Vinci Fiumicino Airport. The plane pictured is part of the old Alitalia, the original company ceased on January 12 2009. It was re-branded and started back up shortly afterward with very little changes. This and the other 747 100's and 200's in its fleet ceased operation in 2004. In fact its current fleet of planes has no models of Boeing 747's. Boeing planes it currently operates are 777's and 767's, both 2 engine medium and long haul planes much like the 747, they can't carry as many people as a 747 however. They also own four Airbus types, three Embraer types, a McDonnell Douglas type and Bombardier type airplane.
