Nvidia still profits from Geforce FX series

Posted on
NVIDIA IS STILL making most of its margins and profits on previous generations of its cards. Believe it or not, the Nvidia top selling card in UK for Yule was the Geforce 5700 128 MB card from PNY.The Nvidia number two in the raw is PNY FX5200 PCI card, while the third one is BGP FX5200 256 MB card.  To read the whole story, click on Read More.

In fourth place you can find the Geforce FX 5500 128 MB while fifth place is the only ATI card, the Sapphire Radeon 9200SE 128MB card, according to, er, Nvidia sources. I have to be very sceptic about this list as it has as much as nine Nvidia cards and only one ATI card on it. At least it can give you an idea which Nvidia cards people buy the most.

The BFG 6600 GT card with 128 MB is in the sixth place and this is the only Geforce 6 card that managed to make some margins so far.

BFG FX5500 and 5700 both 256 MB are in seventh and eighth place while in the ninth position you can find one old believe it or not Aopen MX4000 V64 PCI 64MB card.

Last in the list is the BFG FX5200 card with 256MB of memory. It's interesting to say that most of the cards are actually AGP apart, from the second and ninth card which are based on grandpa old PCI marchitecture. Imagine how many systems in UK still have no AGP slots as the second most selling card in UK is actually PCI card. Who would have thought it? No word on transition to PCIe yet. I guess it will take some more time.

It's interesting to notice that two US based companies PNY and BFG have most of the UK market.
