A Turkish Airlines plane almost landed to a closed airport

It has been alleged that a MD-83 plane which was leased from World Focus Airlines with it's crew by THY almost landed to a closed airport in Turkey.  According to the media reports, a MD-83 flying from Istanbul to Samsun (Black sea city) almost landed to Samsun Engiz airport which was closed in 2002 instead of the current Samsun Carsamba airport.The passengers who were on board claimed that the aircraft started descent when approached to the closed airport and suddenly took of again when they were very close of landing and minutes later landed safely to Samsun Carsamba airport. The passengers onboard complained to the authorities in Samsun immediately after arrival. THY claimed that the pilots did nothing wrong and were approaching to the open airport as they normally do- fly over the closed airport-
