SWISS to adjust its fuel surcharge for intercontinental flights

Posted on
With the prices of crude oil and jet fuel having seen further substantial increases to record new highs over the last few weeks, several major European airlines have raised their fuel surcharges in the past few days. SWISS is now following suit, and is adjusting its fuel surcharge for intercontinental flights. The new fuel surcharge for SWISS long-haul flights will amount to CHF 122 per sector (instead of the present CHF 106). SWISS’s fuel surcharge for European and Swiss domestic flights remains unchanged at CHF 32 per sector.

The new fuel surcharge will apply to all tickets for long-haul air travel originating in Switzerland which are issued from July 26 onwards. Tickets issued up to and including July 25 will be subject to the present surcharge provisions.

SWISS constantly monitors oil prices, and will make any further adjustments to its fuel surcharges contingent on future price trends on the commodities markets. SWISS last adjusted its fuel surcharges in April 2006.

Swiss International Air Lines AG Corporate Communications press release 20.07.2007

Note: Just Like Lufthanse, SWISS "adjusts" the fuel surcharge when it is an increase, but "decreases" it when it is a ... decrease!
