Airliner makes emergency landing

Posted on
A passenger plane carrying about 100 people has made an emergency landing at Leeds Bradford International Airport.A full emergency was declared when the pilot of an Austrian Airlines flight radioed ahead to report a problem with one of the engines.

The crew of the Fokker 100, travelling from Innsbruck to Leeds, had noticed the engine was malfunctioning.

"The aircraft has landed safely," said an airport spokeswoman. "Everybody has been taken off and nobody was hurt."

The spokeswoman said: "The right engine is what they called idle, it wasn't working correctly.

"It landed and all the passengers have disembarked."

The airport was operating normally and no other flights had been affected, she added.

Up to 12 fire engines were seen at the airport ready for the emergency landing.

However, eyewitnesses said the plane appeared to land without any problems.

"The aircraft had 103 people on board but thankfully the aircraft made a safe landing and no-one was injured."
