AlphaSim has released two new aircraft from opposite ends of the flying spectrum. The Royal Aircraft Factory SE5a and the F11F-1 Tiger.
A true classic, the SE5a has been recreated specifically for FSX (FS9 version is also available). All FSX features such as bump-mapping and self-shadowing are present. Both sim versions enjoy a custom soundset, an accurate flight model and a VC with period instrumentation. The four texture schemes give a good representation of the RFC squadrons which employed this aircraft during WWI and an animated and togglable custom pilot figure adds to the enjoyment of flying this model in either sim. An aircraft for those who like wooden planes and cloth wings.
The famous Tiger roars again in three variations - a 'tigermouth' scheme with 4 AAM, a long-range version with aux. tanks, a unique long-range flight model and the classic 'Blue Angels' scheme, worn naturally by a 'clean' version. A very user-friendly 2D panel with several pop-up subpanels makes flying the Tiger a breeze. Special effects include an animated afterburner, smoke, wingtip vortices and wing surface flashover. All the usual animations are present, including a togglable pilot, wingfold and tailhook. AlphaSim carefully researched the flight model and includes a suitably loud jet soundset to complete the package. Early jet era naval aviation buffs might want to take a look at this one.
