Swedish airport pulls out from cargo business

Posted on Mon, 04 May 2009 21:16:49 GMT
Sweden's Skavsta Airport, near Stockholm, has decided to close down all airfreight activities.

The decision is prompted by the general downturn in Sweden's air cargo industry through 2008, and the airport cannot see any signs of improvement in the profitability of its airfreight business.

In 2007 the airport generated a total of 15,000 tonnes of air cargo, unchanged against the preceding year, and the volume has dropped further through 2008.

85 percent of the cargo volumes at the airport has been trucked cargo, and the number of cargo freighter operations has been declining.
