Unity Security Force Celebrates Record Operational Tempo

Posted on Mon, 14 Sep 2009 16:07:02 GMT
The military realism flight simulation group Unity Security Force, posted a record 574.5 flight hours, in 245 individual missions, for January 2009.  The group, which has been operating since 2002 and now boasts over 180 active members, recently ramped up its operations from previous levels as part of joining VATSIM as a virtual airline partner.

"Essentially this means that during January 2009, there was a USEC pilot airborne nearly every hour, of every day" commented General Dean Hall, Chief of Staff. Hall believes that an increased focus on training, standards, web site developments, and the creation of custom content are all factors in the greatly increased operational tempo.

The mission pool system allows commanders and planners to post missions into a pool, where pilots can view and then accept one that suits them. As aircraft are "persistent", flights that are completed have a real impact on operations, such as the delivery of supplies to repair a damaged aircraft.

"In January 2007, we had three hours flown, in two missions. In January 2008, we had 64 hours, in 27 missions. The increase for us has been massive" commented Hall. "I think there are many people interested in flight simulation who want something a bit different," Hall said, "and what we do, well it's not for everyone, but it is different."
