On March 9th the second Being 787 built flew out of its home state of Washington for the first time. It flew down to Victorville, California.Boeing is currently preparing to fly the fourth 787, and win type inspection authorization from the FAA. This achievement is expected to come around the end of March. Also on the agenda for the 787 test program is the first flight of the third 787, scheduled for next weekend.
The trip to Victorville, CA is only the first flight there. The 787 test program will be temporarily based in Victorville, the soon to be home of the 747-8 test program. Victorville and its airport will benefit greatly from Boeing selecting them as its temporary base for testing. It is predicted that they may get up to $150,000 for fuel and landing fees, also the local economy will benefit from the spending of nearly 300 test team members who will be based there.
The rate of 787 production has increased to two per month, and will soon reach 2.5 per month. Boeing’s goal is to be producing 10 per month by 2013. Best of luck to Boeing on a successful test program!
