Emirates would like to unload 58 aircraft in the next few years, and it needs to happen before these aircraft start having major problems. This requires the arrival of the A350 on time. Without the timely arrival, the aircraft currently in use, A330's, A340's and triple 7's would be in use for over ten years which exceeds Emirates usual retirement age.
They have shown interest in the upcoming Airbus A380-900 if Dubai can handle them, and if Airbus can deliver them. They would be interested in adding 20 of them. Emirates is already the leading purchaser of A380 aircraft with 58 on order.
