Oblivious Flight Crew May Get Second Chance

Posted on

In a followup story to the Northwest flight that wandered 100 miles off course, it may be possible for those involved to get back in the pilots seat. After losing their FAA licenses following the incident, they have been given a second chance to pick themselves up and try again.

Capt. Timothy Cheney and First Officer Richard Cole reached an agreement with the FAA that would allow them to re certify as early as August. They will be allowed to take all necessary written and practical test and begin logging hours to get their ratings back. Both pilots deny any wrongdoing but parts of the deal required them to drop any appeals following the original hearings. How can they deny wrongdoing? How can you explain missing your airport? Although I am glad they are going to be given a chance to prove themselves, it would be nice to see people take some responsibility for their actions.
