Create or buy add-ons?

James Abbey, a resident editor at Fly Away Simulation explains in his editorial, how easy it can be to create your own add-ons for flight simulator.  He starts with: I am in no way putting down the sim stores or good companies who create some good products. Have you ever wanted that special scenery and did not have the money for it or went to an area and wanted to add objects to it?

Well your only options are buy it or have someone create it for you. Not in my opinion.  With time patience and the right programs,you can go create your own world in Flight Simulator or other gaming titles.

There are many programs out there for doing repaints, scenery or creating 3D models! I am an avid creator of scenery and just now learning Gmax with good results! If I can do it anyone can.

Programs have become very user friendly, even the included SDK with FSX is not all that difficult There are other Scenery design programs out there if SDK is not your cup of tea. Programs like ADE Airport Design Editor. This program lets you create airports, add scenery objects.ect.  Another program I find useful is Whisper placer. This program lets you place effects and place scenery object with a 3d preview!  Sbuilder X is a great program for creating landmasses like islands or new textures for an existing area. It can also place scenery objects with ease! And all these programs are for free download!

So what are you waiting for? Get creative, share your creations with your friends and colleagues! This is the rewarding part of  creating add ons to your favorite programs like Flight Simulators is Sharing! Why Buy when you can create? I just answerd that!
