Atolls of Tuvalu Released by Pacific Island Sim

Posted on Tue, 24 Jan 2012 14:34:15 GMT

Pacific Island Sim announced its release of Atolls of Tuvalu on 9th February 2010.

Pacific Island Sims announced that it has recreated Atolls of Tuvalu to capture the history and current state of the atolls, and also to offer FSX pilots the opportunity to fly into one of the smallest and beautiful countries in the world with FSX.

Formerly known as Ellice Islands, Tuvalu is a Polynesian island nation located in the Pacific Ocean, halfway between Hawaii and Australia. Tuvalu comprises four reef islands and five true atolls spread out from 6° to 10° south. Countries nearest to Tuvalu are Samoa, Fiji, Kiribati and Nauru. At just 26 square kilometres, Tuvalu is the fourth smallest country in the world.

International interest in the Tuvalu atolls has been high for many years, particularly since the Second World War. Two factors make Tuvalu unique and peculiar. Firstly, it was used by American Forces (mainly Marines) during the Second World War as an advance post for deterring Japanese attacks in the northern South Pacific in 1943. Secondly, it is known in the scientific world as the most rapidly sinking country in the world. According to various studies by a number of scientific experts, if the current sea level continues to rise, Tuvalu will be fully submerged within the next fifty years.

Given this probability of Tuvalu becoming submerged, it is necessary to capture the country and all its stunning beauty for future generations to see. This is one of the reasons why Pacific Island Sim has embarked on a mission to digitize images and memories of the country through game genres such as flight simulation.

The software includes seaplane docks, airfields and helipads. Magnificent and abundant tropical trees and bushes, white sand beaches, crashing waves, many custom objects, background noise and animated animals and birds are all in the software.

Although there are nine atolls and islands forming the country Tuvalu, the software package Atolls of Tuvalu only covers the northern 7 atolls or islands. Pacific Island Sim stated that although they may not accurately capture the whole country of Tuvalu in FSX, they are doing their best to provide a great deal of the country’s look and features, and leave the rest to the imaginations of the users of the product.

The product comes with two manuals and is easy to install. The downloadable file size is 370MB, and it does not affect your computer’s speed or performance after installation. The operating system requirements are Win XP, Vista and/or Win 7.
