The CFM56-5B engine
The CFM International CFM56 is a series high-bypass turbofan aircraft engines designed by CFM International. The engines have a thrust range of 80 to 150 kilonewtons (18,000 to 34,000 pounds-force). The CFM56 was first used in 1974, and today, it is one of the common turbofan aircraft engines worldwide. About 20,000 CFM56’s have been built, in four main variants – 4,000 of these are CFM56-5B.
The CFM56-5A and 5B variants are fitted to Airbus A320 series aircraft – they power about 60% of the A318/A319/A320/A321 aircraft ordered.
