The First A380 for Malaysia Airlines

Malaysia Airlines, the government-owned flag carrier of Malaysia, has received its first Airbus A380. The aircraft will get into service on 2 July 2012, serving the London Heathrow-Kuala Lumpur route.

The A380 has 494 seats and a three-class layout – 66 lie-flat business-class and 70 economy-class seats on the upper deck and 8 lie-flat first-class seats and 350 economy class seats on the lower deck.

At a ceremony to mark the delivery of the aircraft, Malaysia Airlines' chief executive Ahmad Jauhari Yahya, said, "The A380 showcases our latest premium offering. This will be our flagship aircraft offering new levels of comfort, luxury and convenience for long-haul travel."

Malaysia Airlines has 6 A380s on order. The airline will take delivery of the second A380 in August 2012. This aircraft will service the London-Kuala Lumpur route.

Malaysia Airlines will join the Oneworld alliance in the fourth quarter of 2012.

The airline operates flights in East Asia, Southeast Asia, Middle East, Australasia, and Europe. The airline also operates flights from Kuala Lumpur to Los Angeles.

Malaysia Airlines has a diverse fleet that includes Airbus A330-200, Airbus A330-300, Airbus A380-800, Boeing 737-400, Boeing 737-800, Boeing 747-400, and Boeing 777-200ER.

In addition to the fully flat beds in first and business classes, the A380 features wider seats in economy class, as well as individual in-flight entertainment systems, USB ports, and satellite telephone facilities for seats in all classes.
