Air Baltic Introduces SeatBuddy

Posted on Sun, 01 Jul 2012 05:00:00 GMT

Have you ever settled into your seat for a long-haul flight, hoping to rest and sleep, only to realize that the person next to you wants to chat with you about anything and everything? Or, you are on your way to a much-anticipated holiday, and a fellow flight passenger sitting next to you just can’t stop telling you about his business? If you get an ‘incompatible’ seat neighbour, you can have a ‘flight from hell’!

Now you can choose the 'type of person' you sit next to at Air Baltic.

Air Baltic, the Latvian flag carrier airline has become the launch customer for SeatBuddy, a product by Satisfly that enables passengers to choose an ideal and compatible seat neighbour.

SeatBuddy allows you to set the desired profile for your seat neighbour and choose a preferred flight mood – you can choose from a relaxed, work, or social flight mood.  If you want a quiet flight in a silent environment, or an easy chat and a “business networking” opportunity with a like-minded passenger, you can specify that in the profile. If you want a seat neighbour who shares the same hobbies with you or speak a certain language, you can also specify that.

Based on the information you provide in SeatBuddy, the system will automatically identify and allocate the best “seat buddy” for you, based on travellers’ preferences.

Air Baltic is currently using the SeatBuddy system on a limited number of flights, but it will soon add the system to more flights.

If you are flying Air Baltic, all you need to do is to register to SeatBuddy through the Air Baltic website and define you flight preferences.

Air Baltic senior vice president sales and marketing, Michael Grimme, said, “We are delighted to introduce this new service, as our customers can be seated next to like-minded travellers. We are launching this as a free-of-charge additional service, and at the same time exploring its future commercial potential.”

Satisfly’s co-founder and chief executive, Sergio Mello, added, “Air Baltic has established an enviable reputation worldwide for best practice in digital marketing and one-to-one customer relationships. Their decision to implement Satisfly’s intelligent seating is part of an overall corporate commitment to service and we are delighted to be a part of it.”
