Virtual Flight Design released Magellan World Series air races for FSX.  Magellan World Series offers challenging race courses which are held in six scenic locations around the world.

Red Bull racing aircraft.

The Magellan World Series is a set of six fictional races (12 missions) for FSX with a highly innovative design. All races are multiplayer-capable (16 racers + 83 observers), however, they can be used by single player. The races are arranged progressively by difficulty.

The course of each race is marked by a combination of gates, pylons, terrain features and recognized landmarks. There are wide gates which can be negotiated easily, so players with little or no experience in races can participate.

All races have been designed to use the default FSX scenery, particularly those sites well rendered in FSX. However, the races can also be used on third-party sceneries, and this adds excitement to the show. In addition, scenery has been optimized to deliver more fun and benefits to be user from Ultimate Terrain and FS Genesis.

Although the races were designed for three aircraft, a player can choose to change the default planes and use his or her favorite one for the race. This means players can fly each race using a different aircraft, as many times as they want. This enables players to enjoy the ultimate flight experience, particularly when competing against other players.

All races have the same set-up and layout, namely a training heat and the official run. There is a guide plane which shows players the course in the training race. Players can also compete against the guide plane, as part of their training. A player can feel like they are in the race – many different voices, background and effects are used.

There is a wide range of races – some races will allow players to open full throttle, and players will need to finely trace the course in order to win. Others races do not allow high speed, and players need to stay within the speed limits.

The product is delivered with detailed instructions on how to fly multiplayer missions and also how to fly each race with optimal performance. Repaints are included in the package as well. The repaints are accurate copies of actual planes that are currently racing at Oshkosh, Reno and Red Bull Air Race.

Magellan World Series runs on Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 in the 32 and 64 bit editions. Acceleration Expansion Pack is required.
