This November is set to see New Zealand's virtual community come alive with the entire country involved in what should be the biggest flyin seen in the south pacific.
New Zealand, island nation in the South Pacific Ocean, located south of the equator in the Southern Hemisphere, and marking the eastern boundary of the Tasman Sea, a portion of the Pacific Ocean that separates New Zealand and the nearest large landmass, Australia, by a distance of about 1,600 km (1,000 mi). New Zealand includes two large islands that constitute most of its landmass, as well as numerous small islands.
Local controllers along with several stations in Australia will operate ATC positions from the three major aerodromes AA, WN and CH in New Zealand and SY, ML and BN in Australia, several smaller aerodromes will also be manned for the smaller aircraft wishing to experience a visually stunning and challenging flight.
The format for the flyin enables someone to fly an international route into the country disembark and climb aboard a single engine aircraft for some visual sightseeing, a good example of a short international flight would be in a 767 departing Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane in Australia and arriving in Christchurch, climb into a single or twin and head south to Queenstown, the extreme sports capital of the world, or even ditch the 767 at Christchurch and climb into a C130 bound for Scott Base Antarctica.
