This amazing tour will take pilots and spectators over some of Australia’s most well known and recognizable landmarks.
Deadlines are enforced, so early registration is encouraged to guarantee a place.
The event begins in Melbourne on February 1st and ends in Melbourne 81 days later. Late summer timing of the event will lessen the likelihood of unsavory weather and delays. It is recommended to complete the entire rally rather than to only participate in certain legs.
The route follows the coastline except for stops at Alice Springs and Ayers Rock, Australia and also at Port Moresby, Papau New Guinea. Necessary travel documents, including passports and airspace clearance, are required for the Port Moresby leg. Assistance with obtaining the proper permissions is available upon request.
The natural beauty of the coastline will be a highlight of the rally. Land formations, water, and other geographic features can be seen with a new perspective and appreciation. It may be possible to see wildlife, both aquatic and terrestrial, from the air. Upon landing at each stop, participants may take part of local amenities and enjoy each region’s unique characteristics.
Flights are scheduled every other day so that all pilots will have enough time to complete the Rally. Adequate rest is necessary for pilots’ safety. Pilots may fly earlier than scheduled if they desire. The rally is not intended to be competitive in nature but rather to showcase the continent and to provide the casual pilot with a worthy pursuit. Opportunities will be provided to meet and socialize with fellow participants.
Past participants have described the experience as “Breathtaking,” “exhilarating” and “a once-in-a-lifetime challenge.”
