Hi all,

I've decided to make a few upgrades in preparation for FSX Very Happy

First up....RAM Wacko

So I was wondering how I know what sort to buy...for example a search for 1gig on PC World's website retured these results...

I suggest you use www.crucial.com - its the best option. It will tell you the RAM that is compatible for your computer as well as video cards that are compatible for your computer. Be sure to make sure you get the same speed RAM as you have now.

Depending on your motherboard, I think you can clear out those two 256s and add 1 gig in each at a higher speed than you already have, making sure your motherboard can handle it of course.

I have no idea other than using Crucial Laughing

Heres an example of my computer:

On the list of RAM it has the specification. The first thing it says is DDR PC3200 or DDR PC2700 for RAM lower down. All of these speeds that have come up are compatible with my motherboard but might not be compatible with the RAM I have (I have PC2700 RAM so if I get PC3200, it'll run at the lower speed). The highest speed that is available for my computer is PC3200.

When you give your computer manufacturer and model details, it should come up with that list and then you can choose the highest speed - but make sure that all of your RAM is the same speed.

If any of this is wrong, someone will correct me soon Wink

Does that mean the fastest for my motherboard is PC2700??

I think so, yes. I'm confused as to why its not showing 1 gig on the list as the maximum you can have is 2 gigs, so thats strange.

Don't buy anything on the advice I give you (I know very little about hardware compared to most of the contributing members here).
