Hello everyone,
I am thinking of upgrading my system from:
AMD Athlon dual core 5000+ 2.66mgz
2 meg RAM
nVidia 8800GTS 512m
Using nHancer, GEX, UTX
Vista Home 32 bit edition Service Pack 1
to:
Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450 2.66G/1333/12M/S775
4g of RAM Corsair 800mhz DDR2
ASUS Striker Extreme NF680 Motherboard
nVidia 8800GTS 512m
Vista 64 bit edition
First question: Will I see a difference in terms of performance ?
I might OC this new CPU but would like to know if this new CPU would perform better than my current one at stock values.
Or should I wait in the fall and see what is available then ?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Bye |

New system looks great, be sure to have a good power supply, minimum of 750w and a name brand not generic junk.
It'll run beautifully.
If you wait until the end of the year it'll be better, if you wait 10 years it'll be much better.
It's always better to wait but then you'll never buy anything, get it!!

Hey Radarman,
I like your logic !
I just wasn't sure if an Intel quad would do better than AMD dual core at the same speed (2.66ghz).
I guess the quad is better for FSX and I could overclock it while I can't OC this AMD because of a generic motherboard.
Is DDR2 at 800mhz ok for my new system or do I need to go with DDR3 ?
How about Vista 64bit, any worries here ?
Thanks again,
Bye |

Intel is better right now and it seems for a while.
Since we have at least two years or more left with FSX and you play other games go for the fastest ram if the price isn't too high.
I have a friend with Vista 64bit and he's very happy with it, built the machine himself and all the hardware has drivers, either with it or found on the net.
