|

I recently decided that I wanted try creating some textures for some of my aircraft. I heard some people used Corel Paint Shop Pro, so I got myself a copy of that (VX2) and tried opening some texture files. What I got in return mystified me:
These three files are the exterior textures for the default Boeing 737-400, Landmark Airlines.
Does anyone know why, and/or how to fix it? _________________ CPU: Intel Core2 Quad OCed 3.0Ghz | RAM: 4x2048 PNY DDR2 667Mhz | Video: 2x9800GX2s Quad-Sli | Mobo: nVidia nForce 780i SLI | HDD: 3xWD 500GB 7200 RPM | 1200watt Toguhpower PSU | Gateway 19" 720p HDLCD @ 1440x990 | XP SP3 / Vista Ultimate

Yup......
the answer.... you need to change the format of the initial texture file to something your program can read.
What you need is a product called imagetool (microsoft). When you get it downloaded and installed you need to open the file you want to manipulate in imagetool, then CHANGE its format to BMP 24 bit. (REMEMBER WHAT FORMAT YOU STARTED WITH), then save it.
Open it in your painting program... do what you got to do... then when done, save it, open up imagetool again, then convert it back to what it was originally... then save.
Open up FS and enjoy your new livery. _________________

Well, I gave imgtool a look, but I don't understand how to make it work... Can you give me a quick rundown on how to covert the files please?
Edit: Solved my problem. I was using a different program, rather annoyingly named imgtool.
Edit2: Uhum... well, I got imagetool installed, but opening the file, still the same problem. _________________ CPU: Intel Core2 Quad OCed 3.0Ghz | RAM: 4x2048 PNY DDR2 667Mhz | Video: 2x9800GX2s Quad-Sli | Mobo: nVidia nForce 780i SLI | HDD: 3xWD 500GB 7200 RPM | 1200watt Toguhpower PSU | Gateway 19" 720p HDLCD @ 1440x990 | XP SP3 / Vista Ultimate

I'll have to give that a shot.
Well, it looks like all the files are already .bmps. I opened *\Aircraft\b737_400\texture.5, and the texture files name is: B737_400_C.bmp <== Anyway, imagetool has the same problem displaying the image.
Saving the files in another format does not solve the problem.
I might take a while to reply, my internet recently went down, so I'm using the one at school.
Edit: Home computer back online. _________________ CPU: Intel Core2 Quad OCed 3.0Ghz | RAM: 4x2048 PNY DDR2 667Mhz | Video: 2x9800GX2s Quad-Sli | Mobo: nVidia nForce 780i SLI | HDD: 3xWD 500GB 7200 RPM | 1200watt Toguhpower PSU | Gateway 19" 720p HDLCD @ 1440x990 | XP SP3 / Vista Ultimate

I found a tool (TexBmp) that is reputed to be able to convert the standard FS9 textures into editable files, but when I use it and select the texture I want to convert, it says:
The file is neither a valid bitmap nor and uncompressed r8 file.
How can my textures not be valid? _________________ CPU: Intel Core2 Quad OCed 3.0Ghz | RAM: 4x2048 PNY DDR2 667Mhz | Video: 2x9800GX2s Quad-Sli | Mobo: nVidia nForce 780i SLI | HDD: 3xWD 500GB 7200 RPM | 1200watt Toguhpower PSU | Gateway 19" 720p HDLCD @ 1440x990 | XP SP3 / Vista Ultimate

Time is the ultimate solution.
I found a program that, in conjunction with PSP, allows me to edit texture files. I gave it a whirl and changed the standard World Travel airlines 737 from red to green. It worked!
Thanks for trying to help belgeode. I really appreciate it. _________________ CPU: Intel Core2 Quad OCed 3.0Ghz | RAM: 4x2048 PNY DDR2 667Mhz | Video: 2x9800GX2s Quad-Sli | Mobo: nVidia nForce 780i SLI | HDD: 3xWD 500GB 7200 RPM | 1200watt Toguhpower PSU | Gateway 19" 720p HDLCD @ 1440x990 | XP SP3 / Vista Ultimate

Hey Vanya, why not share with us the program that you found. Maybe a URL?

I honestly cannot find the site I got it from. But if you google DXTBmp, you should find plenty of download sites. _________________ CPU: Intel Core2 Quad OCed 3.0Ghz | RAM: 4x2048 PNY DDR2 667Mhz | Video: 2x9800GX2s Quad-Sli | Mobo: nVidia nForce 780i SLI | HDD: 3xWD 500GB 7200 RPM | 1200watt Toguhpower PSU | Gateway 19" 720p HDLCD @ 1440x990 | XP SP3 / Vista Ultimate

This is the site where DXTBmp originated from: http://www.mnwright.btinternet.co.uk/programs/dxtbmp.htm
I wonder what happened... maybe you couldn't find it again because it now seems scaled down and a simple 'DXTBMP' into the search engine won't take you straight there as it used to. _________________
