Download a new one, 1.0.6 I think (this week Rolling Eyes ). Let it overwrite the old one, if that doesn't work delete it and reinstall the latest.
It's a small download so not much trouble.

Do you have the Adblock extension? If so, you can try disabling it (Tools> Adblock> Preferences) to see if that's what's hiding the pics. Also, there are some legit sites that need to be added to Allowed Sites in the Popup Blocker (Tools> Options> General) to get full use of the site's features.

It seems they are coming out with a new version every week now. The last one had problems with "grease-monkey" I think it was and this version or the next will address that.

Fumble bumble, it'll die like Netscape did as soon as it gets enough users (10% of the market). Then the virus jerks will attack it.
They already lost a few key people to Google. Dont Know

It may seem that way, but four releases since November 9, 2004 is more like one every two months average, but I know the beta releases are continuous. BTW, I'm no "fanboy" of any particular browser, though with the extensions I have added to Fx I'm happy enough. My mind is always open to alternatives, of course.

Yes, it has 10% of the market, and sure the virus jerks will go after it at some point, but IE will always have the lion's share of the browser market (and thus the attacks).

What browser do you use and recommend to others? What is your opinion on Avant and Opera?

TIA, as always I appreciate the hours of hard work you put in here and the excellent technical advice of which I always take note. I'd really like a peek at those 4,000 bookmarks one day - any chance of exporting and uploading here for all of us to see?

    Firefox 6.8% of the market.
    http://www.firingsquad.com/news/newsarticle.asp?searchid=8058
In a few months it'll be 10% and then it will be a problem for them and for us unless they get a update warning system.

I use IE except for the few sites that are excruciatingly slow, then I switch to Firefox.
When I started on the net I had Netscape 1.0, after 3.0 I switched to IE because I had seen it on a relatives computer and liked it much better then, It seems I wasn't the only defector.
I'll use and recommend IE especially since they were kicked in the head by Mozzilla and decided to come out with a new one...soon. Rolling Eyes

Opera is supposed to be very good but it co$t$ $$$ so it has a very tiny share. Avant never really took off, I don't know much if anything about it.

My bookmarks like anyone else's have some personal ones and a huge amount for my golf game that I've played since late 96 (most are probably dead), and for MSTrain which I was hooked on for a short time.

When someone needs something and I have it, I wouldn't hold back, I'm saying that but you already know that.

The reason you see a new version coming out all the time is that Firefox is open source. Microsoft obviously insn't going to do this.

Anyone can get the program and make improvements to it. IE will come out with a new version once every few years, when they have something to sell.

To 'fix' what? Those sites work perfectly fine from here using Firefox 1.0.6 (I have buy.com open in another tab now and browsing DVD titles, everything shows up as it should), but you didn't answer my question about Adblock, so I don't know if that's part of your problem or not?

    Rick

@Av8r77: RM knows his stuff, and I believe he was referring to how quickly the 1.0.6 release followed 1.0.5 once they discovered holes in the latter. In any case, version 1.0 was released last year so it's not very many official releases (heck, X-Plane has that many releases in a month).

@RM: I looked up Opera - looks great, but as you said it's payware. Avant is "IE on steroids" as it requires IE components on the user's system or it won't work. Both browsers seem to be getting updated, but the amount of users is so small (as you pointed out already) who knows how long that will continue.

IE will always be the overwhelming leader. The majority of PC users aren't people like us, they are using the machines for work or word processing and the net at home. As long as IE comes installed they'll keep it and never download an alternative browser, if they know how to download at all.
MS automatically updates the software for them, if they didn't it would never be patched (SP2).
They give them a firewall, pop-up-stopper, and will be giving them an anti-virus. As long as they hold the customers hand they will be happy with Windows.
    KISS=Keep It Simple Stupid.
Surfing and sending e-mail with attachments (Word or photos) are as far as they go, that's why MS builds Windows with a GUI that won't change, they can't come out with a simpler one.
I've seen screenshots of WVista and except for a color (and an interesting transparency change) the desktop looks very much as XP does now.

This (WVista) will be the first pay Windows since 2001, that's 5 or 6 years, they could have put out a **NEW** copy with SP1 and then SP2 and charged for them but to their credit they not only gave it away but shipped millions of copies of the two free, how many OS's did Apple or Linux came out for big $ in that same period of time.

Because of Firefox MS has IE 7.0 in beta now, they were waiting to put it out with WVista but Mozilla forced their hand. I guess we'll see it the first quarter of next year.

I can't believe I'm defending MS, the most paranoid company in the world, they have a right to be everyone is out to get them (yes it's a joke).

The geeks and we semi geeks experiment and don't buy a machine for the 24/7 tech support, they majority of buyers do.

Quite right. If not for some creative negotiating on Bill Gates' part, and MEGA-arrogance on IBM's, the playing field would look a lot different today. So Microsoft owns the OS market, and by packaging an outstanding browser with an outstanding OS, it only makes sense they own the browser market as well.

But just like I'm not going to use Paint over Gimp (just an example, I'm a Photoshop user), I'm not likely to use IE over something extensible. I'd gladly pay for Opera if the users were writing the extensions that are available for Firefox.

I run a notepad equivilent, FTP client, download manager, and several browser windows all within Firefox, all using far less memory than running individual browser windows and applications, and all occupying a single spot on the task bar. Not bad! Smile

Here are my favorite Firefox extensions, for anyone interested:
