One simple Advice.
Get an ASUS GeForce 6600 with 256 ram.
I ensure you that you wont regret for this VGA.
256MB of ram will give you great performance for FS and anything else you want to run in your system. _________________

Why is it that my GeForce 6600 has only 128Mb?
Does it depend on the brand? Mine is MSI.
Thanks,

Thanks for the advice, do you meana vanilla Geforce 6600 or the 6600GT, which has a faster clock
Is the extra RAM improtant for performance the, cause ive seen some that have 512MB |

You can both check the link below to get an idea about graphic cards.

Tailhook.
There are more than one manufactures that using the Nvidia Chipset and offers to us different types of VGAs.
Lovebug
The type of VGA you will choose, first of all,is depending in your budget.
I personally suggest ASUS
http://www.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=2
and to be more specific i suggest this card
http://www.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=2&l2=6&l3=139&model=361&modelmenu=1
Its value for money and gives great performance.I have instal it to a freinds system and we have run some games(Far Cry,Doom3,Half Life,F.E.A.R. and of course FS) with it and the results was more than what we excpext.
I have not notice till now a VGA with 512mb of RAM.lm not sure if it has produced with such size of memory.Although i will search it cause these technologies run faster than light and it is very easy to loose the course.
My small knowledges in the deep technical world is that a bigger memory (256mb for example)can stored more data and with faster speed so the data process is faster with better results in the performance of our systems.
I make clear that im not an Nvidia promoter.I just have use three models of Nvidia in my system and have see in friends systems some more and never heard or face up in problems from them.
I respect and accept ATI manufacturer but i dont have personal opinion about these Chipset.
I hope my simple(i cant be more specific cause i dont know more) explanations helps you. _________________

Don't worry, as far as FS 2004 is concerned there is little (if any) difference in performance between the GF 6600 with 128 and the one with 256.
It's the memory on your motherboard that matters and the memory speed and video processor power of your video card that really determine performance.. |

Thanks Greekman, I found the card you referred to here http://www.asus.com/products4.aspx?modelmenu=2&model=361&l1=2&l2=6&l3=139
It's the "Extreme N6600/TD" apparently available with 128M or 256M video memory - how confusing

Thanks Michael, something else to try and get my head around. so how do I determine what my :
1) motherboard memory
2) memory speed
3) video processor power of my video card ...is? Noob - that's me _________________ "It is universally accepted that an admission of atheism would be instant political suicide for any presidential candidate."

I meant the clock speed of your video card memory Chief Captain, which is measured in magahertz, not your system memory.
I have found that the minimum system memory for good FS 9 performance is 512 megs, but that is the minimum. I use 1024 megs which seems to be enough for my system to run smoothly.. Some people use double that amount.
You can look up all these specs easily for your own video card..
What processor (CPU) and how much system memory do you have to go with that 6600? |

Thanks Radarman, I have been making extensive use of 'belarc' ever since you and some other members have suggested it. I was just a little confused with Michael's terminology.
Michael, this is the 'Display' section in Belarc:
MSI MS-StarForce GeForce 6600 GT (NVIDIA GeForce 6600 GT) [Display adapter]
PHILIPS 107E [Monitor] (15.2"vis, s/n BZ 434577,
so I suppose 6600 refers to the megahertz?
If in your second paragraph you refer to system RAM I have 2 Gig.
My CPU is a AMD64 3200+
Thanks for your patience Gentlemen,

So how come your "Connie" looks so gorgeous and my "F-18 SUPER HORNET" won't download - let alone show up???
No, please not the trick with the battery operated radio - I'll figure it out in the end. Also, I'm determined to ignore the "Google" advice of our friend CrashPilot. _________________ "It is universally accepted that an admission of atheism would be instant political suicide for any presidential candidate."
