I was thinking about getting some more RAM for my computer, right now I have 512 MB. I want to add a GB to make it 1.5 GB. I want the good stuff, DRR2, but I want to keep it under $100. I have a Dell Dimension 5100, I have looked around but I'm not sure what looks best and who to buy from. Any suggestions?

    Hey Sam,

    Try this site:

    http://www.crucial.com/store/listmfgr.asp?cat=RAM

You can enter your PC model etc and crucial.com will find the RAM that is suitable to your PC. Don't forget, that you must buy RAM that is the same speed as the RAM you already have, or the upgrade will be pointless and a waste of money. Check the speed of your RAM using this download:

    http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html

...or when you start your computer, press F2 and it will open up system utilities and it will tell you there. RAM is quite cheap nowadays. I bought a mid-speed 1 gig RAM stick from crucial.com for £70 ($140).

I've just had a quick look and at www.crucial.com it looks about $116-130 for 1 gig of DDR2 RAM, depending on whether you want 1 stick of 1 gig or 2 sticks of 512mb.

Lastly, make sure you have enough slots for the upgrade. The Belarc download will tell you that Wink

    Hope it helps Wink

Yeah you have to be careful that the RAM will run in this 512mb and 1Gb config to total your 1.5GB. You may have to just run the 1GB block and take out the 512mb block that you have in the computer just now. Alternatively you may have to just buy a 512mb block and be satisfied with 1Gb ram. You really have to check that it will run the config that you are talking about purchasing and setting up.
