    ok so once i take off i pause. i set the altitude in the altitude select window. then i turn on AP. then i press ALT. then i press P to resume the game.

    You have to set your VERTICAL SPEED as well.

    You seem to be having problems with some basics here. I'm assuming you're running FS2002. As I don't have it installed at the moment I am unable to explore that sim.

    However... there is a brilliant tuorial for the default 737 in FS2002 available here.

    Make sure you study it thoroughly, it also explains every aspect of the AP. Big Grin

    I had that sometimes too with my Transavia 737-700
