|
|
I have a question about my current PC. Since I really can't upgrade to a much faster video card, I will need to first change out my power supply on my PC. It is only 200 watts. I want to go with a 500 watt or better. When having a more powerful power supply effect my PC or make X run better?

I don't think that you will notice differences in performance.

I agree with GM, the power is there to operate the installed equipment, exceeding that value won't do anything. Having more power will allow you to install more/better items that will make your computer run better but extra power alone won't have an effect unless you're at or past the limit for what you have installed now. |

You should not see any improvement in any "gameplay" unless your PC was crashing due to lack of power
Tip for you when buying a new power supply, dont buy the cheapest 500 watt as they tend to be a bit erratic when pushed.
Go for a known brand name _________________

Thanks for the information. I have been doing some research lately and yes, I will get a brand new power supply.
Since I am not going to upgrade to Vista for at least a year, I will need to get a upgraded power supply and a high end video card that will give me at least some good fps. I am suspecting that Vista will have plenty of bugs and compatability issues with video cards so I want to wait till the dust settles before jumping into Vista.
