I thought i'd start a little sport thread Very Happy , this Saturday in the UK sees the start of the RBS Six Nations Rugby Union Championship. It starts at 14:00 with Ireland v Italy, but the BIG game is at 16:30 with England v Wales Razz . I'm going to be totally biased here and only post clips of Wales Very Happy , i'll leave it up to the others from the UK to post their favourite bits of their side playing amazing rugby. So first off i'll get the hairs on the back of my neck tingling with the Welsh National Anthem being sung at the Millenium Stadium in Cardiff
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZpYogExUngU
and then a little montage of Welsh rugby Very Happy
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r8xKJsujVKk

So, sports fans, lets see your favourite bits of your team be it NFL, NHL or whatever!

So in your neck of the woods rugby season starts when American Football is winding down?

    Cool... did not know that.

Actually I am curious... can you gimme a side by side comparison of Rugby and NFL Football please?

I have always wondered what the differences are, other than the obvious lack of body armor.

Give me normal football any day

That's soccer to you over the pond Smile

Having lived in Wales for ten years, I know how much it means to them though, so I hope you get the result you are looking for!

Well i'll give it a go bel Very Happy , the league season has been going for a while now and will end in April. But the all important Internationals start this Saturday, this is where Wales, England, Scotland, Ireland, France and Italy all play each other in the RBS Six Nations Championship, these will go on untill the 19/20th March.
In Rugby Union there are 15 players in each side on the field at any one time and substitutes on the bench.
Whenever you pass the ball to one of your own players it must travel backwards (not forward or straight or this will result in a scrum, with the other side being awarded the put in, this gives them the advantage.)
When a player has the ball you must not block or impede the other side from being able to tackle him.
When a player has been tackled if he has been forced to the ground and the ball is classed as being on the ground this is called a ruck, and the ball must be rucked out using the feet only, if there is a player in the way then that's just tough you can ruck him out. If he has been tackled but not forced to the ground or the ball is not classed as being on the ground then this is called a maul and has to be ripped out by hand.
When you cross the opponents line to score a "TRY" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AwCbG4I0QyA the ball must be placed on the ground you get 5 points for this. You can then try to kick the conversion for 2 extra points, this must be taken back from the line at the same point where the try was scored, i.e if you put the ball down near the touchline then that's where you will be kicking from, the same applies if you are awarded a penalty for foul play, it is taken from where the infringement occured and not in front of the posts, if you kick the penalty you get 3 points
    e.g http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p7YjAfBETjc&feature=related
You can also score extra points by kicking a drop goal while in open play
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6s1-peSQF_E&feature=related
The game lasts for 80 minutes, 40 each half with a 10 minute break inbetween. I did'nt put any American Football (you just call it football Very Happy )in as you know a lot more about that than i do Very Happy .

bel you would love it Very Happy , imagine your favourite Football team making the Superbowl and they are playing your greatest enemies in football. Before you get to the stadium you are in the bars just testing the local hostelries all sets of fans getting on and having friendly banter Cheers! Very Happy , you watch the game while sampling a few more hating the opposition, then after the game you hit the town testing some more local hostelries, all sets of fans getting on fine no matter what the result, although you're a bit sadder than earlier if you lost .
This is what it'll be like on Saturday when Wales play England. Very Happy Cheers! Cheers! Cheers! Cheers! Cheers! Cheers! Cheers! Cheers!

oh sure rugby, soccer and football are ok, but if you wanna know what REAL LUNATICS do to let off a little steam, have a look at this:

    http://www.superbike.cn/uk-superbike-2005-isle-of-man-sportbike-race.html

even if you don't watch the whole video (it's an hour long) at least see the first 7 minutes, so you can get a breif lesson on the history of the t.t. and then you'll know why i say these guys are true lunatics. besides, you'll be rewarded with a nice shot of a dc-3

    Hmm

I'd have to dispute the all sets of fans getting on fine bit, certainly in North Wales

You'd have to be a brave Englishman to set foot in a Welsh pub if the game has gone badly for Wales

CMON WALES!!! You can do it!

Over here is australia, its all AFL "footy" Australian rules football. I don't find it that interesting. I'm into rugby and football (The round ball game)

I played football for a club (Which was VERY expensive to get into for a football club!) And this year i'm not playing for them. Cos the coach changed and he's and absolute arsehole.

I also practice a martial art called iaido. This si a different style but you get what i mean.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DtzDbDpN3xQ

Also these guys are not very good at all... I've been practicing for almost 2 years and i guess i can say i'm better than them.
    =D

Correction. The paragraph above me was writeen before i watched the video. Those people preforming the kata absolutely.... SUCK. They are incredibly bad...

cheezyflier, what a great video! I'm going to watch all of that when i get the chance, the Isle of Man TT Races are crazy Shocked . Apparantly two people are killed every year.
For those that don't know the Isle of Man is an island just off the Coast of North Wales and upper West Coast of England, for about two weeks every year, anyone can go there on their motorbike and just hammer the hell out of it as they have no speed limit Shocked !

Just a little update Very Happy Very Happy , now, i've had some alcohol and also several beers Cheers! , i have no fingernails left and i've lost my voice. At half time the score was England 16-Wales 6, just after half time the score went to England 19-Wales 6, game over, or so you would have thought Sad ,somewhere along the line we decided to up the tempo and went crazy.
It was a fantastic game and i give all credit to England, as i thought we were out of the game their defence and attack were superb and they just kept on coming at us,but all of a sudden we turned the game and just stepped up a gear resulting in the final score ENGLAND 19-WALES 26.
Tailhook your prophecy was correct Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy please keep them coming Very Happy . so Group Wave Kick Kick Kick Cheers! Cheers! Cheers! to the whole Welsh team for a fantastic performance Very Happy .
    I just might collapse now!
