Just installed FSX deluxe & SP1 on a new puter.
I see in add/remove that other applications got installed too.
I won't use SDK or C++ & don't like having unknown applications on a puter.
Has anyone removed just these 2 applications? If so is FSX effected?
Ya think these 2 would be needed to install SP2?
Are they installed by FSX not deluxe?
Thanks in advance for any answers! |

Hi Folks
oldsamer -
VC redist & MSXML are not residuals,
they're required components.
If you'd been applying your Windows updates,
you'd at least have had MSXML quite some time ago.
Do not delete them.

| The two are on my computer with just the original FSX install. But unfortunately for me my SIM stopped working last week and I have been going through HELL trying to get it to work again. |

To basys,
I've noticed ''you'd at least have had (quite a few) MSXML some time ago" on an older puter. This is a newly formated drive with fresh XP sp2 install updated by MS automatic updates to XP sp3 & all critical patches. The (quite a few) MSXML must be rolled up in XP sp3, because I don't seeum compared to the older puter.
I suspect these 2 applications are the components of the FSX deluxe SDK (software development kit). Thus they would not be installed with "not deluxe FSX". But I'm reluctant to remove them without confirmation from "not deluxe FSX" users.
To Accelor,
Is your FSX deluxe or no?
Ya can always format the hard drive and reload everything!!! It's what I ended up doing after upgrading motherboard and processor, figure about 2 days work. |

VC redist & MSXML are required components to run FSX.
By all means follow your suspicions,
but don't come back bleating
when you next try to run FSX
& receive the error -

Sooo, have you tryed removing Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable and MSXML 4.0 SP2 Parser and sdk?
I'm too old to bleat , even after destroying the BIOS on 2 new intel motherboards this month because the intel audio driver disrupts ACPI standby when Windows Media Player is paused (a Known [by microsoft] issue referred to in intel release notes). |

oldsamer -
No not personally.
But that's the message (or similar)
you'll receive when its missing.
Try googling FSX+MSXML.
An XML parser is an essential requirement for FSX to work.
It's core to virtually every aspect of FSX.
ISTR ref notes were also in the FSX readme files,
can't check, as some nupmty's addon overwrote the original.
My apologies re: bleating,
forgot to append the smiley.
BIOS issue sounds painful.

How VERY timely microsoft is
While responding to this post, a major security update for microsoft MSXML 4.0 was waiting behind the yellow shield in the tray!!!
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936181 describes MSXML in detail.
You are absulutely right. MSXML must be intergral to FSX. I expect the C++ is necessary for the original FSX sdk which is not a windows based program.
In so far a motherboards go, I've been on a month long odessy migrating for 65nano to 45nano processors. That necessitates a new motherboard. And that is a NEW puter to the then resident XP in the old hardrive. SO, format and reload, I've bumped into the usual teething problems. When I get fustrated I go out and pull weeds.
Right now I've got FSX running more smoothly than I've ever seen it. And learned more about windows plumbing than I ever wanted to know! |
