Problem with demo (missing file??)

fl9 Guest

Hi all,

I've downloaded the demo, 'successfully' installed it, but when I click on the shortcut, I get an error message saying:

'The MSXML4 SP2 component is not installed. Please reinstall FS to restore or repair this missing component.'

I've uninstalled and reinstalled but it still happens. Can someone PLEEEEEASE tell me what's gone wrong here??? 😞

(I copied & pasted the msxml.dll file from my fs9 into the fsx demo folder but that doesn't help either)

Thanks

I have no idea why it's doing that. Did you ever upgrade to SP2, that could be the problem.
if you uninstall it you also have to clean the registry and using the search on your desktop cleanout the old files before installing again.

Here are a few "notes" that I've found on the missing parts that you have posted.

Thanks for the reply.

I don't even know what SP2 is.

I deleted an 'msxml4' folder (though it contained nothing) then downloaded and installed msxml4 again but the problem's still there.

To be honest I'm totally baffled. I was sooo looking forward to see the difference between fs9 and fsx. 😞

SP2 is service pack 2. For instance you get XP SP1/SP2

Go to the top of the browser and click on help and about internet explorer.

That will tell you SP1 or SP2.

No it's not a problem with Windows SP2. It's a problem with MicroSoft XML

Now I really don't know what to do

The MS download page for MSXML4 SP2 is:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=3144b72b-b4f2-46da-b4b6-c5d7485f2b42&DisplayLang=en

That said, I am not certain that this will solve anything, since I haven't heard of this problems before.

Do you have SP1 and 2 installed?
Go to Windows update and download all updates, including .Net if you need to.

Hey guys.....

I have the same issue...cant get Flightsimx demo to run

"The MSXML4 SP2 component is not installed. Please reinstall Flight Simulator to restore or repair this missing component."

Its not missing....i can see it Add/Remove programs as succesfully installed....must be a bug with the demo itself.

Hopefully a fix/patch will be issued soon as i wont by a game if the Demo dont work!!!!!

Read this over and see if it applies to your OS.
If in doubt, don't download.

Same with me ..have the new demo but still get the same error.
Have tried instlaiing Msxlm again but still no go.

If you look at the System event logs there is a reference to msxml 2 (sidebyside) error before the msxml4 error....

NOT GOOD ENOUGH Microsoft...

fl9 Guest

I've read all that about MSXML sp2 and it means nothing to me tbh...

I'm seriously doubting even buying FSX now, if this isn't fixed

Suppose I'm gonna have to contact Microsoft and wait next year for a reply.... Crying or Very sad

Thanks anyway...

NandoBCF Guest

just solved the MSXML problem!!!

Don't know exactly how, but this is what I did:
1- Installed the MSXML 4 SP2 from microsoft's website
2- Uninstalled FSX demo
3- Reinstalled FSX demo

now it works!

Help Guest

Yes, but how do you install that programme? Exactly because i don't know how to.

cptn-hansolo Guest

Tried installing, uninstalling, different hotfixes but can´t fix this issue...
Let´s hope that they fix this bug in full version.
anyone got any more ideas?

Hansoloswe Guest

A possible solution.

I searched for all files on my PC with msxml4*.* and deleted them and renamed the ones that i couldn´t delete

Rebooted the PC.

Then I reinstalled the distribution of msxml that came with the demo.

Too bad im at work and doing it by remote desktop so i can´t be sure it works, but i don´t ge the same msxml4 sp2 error anymore. So it seems like it has fixed the problem.

Let me guess. You finally installed SP2. How many years has that been available. People who do not keep their security updates current, should not be allowed on the internet. They are a danger to everyone else and don't even realize it.

Now, if I am wrong, which updates did you actually install??

gratch38 Guest

Hi..

you are wrong i am afraid....i'be been fully patched with SP2 since its release.

The updates that installed were

Security Update for Windows XP (KB924191) 11 October 2006 Automatic Updates
Windows XP Security Update for Windows XP (KB922819) 11 October 2006 Automatic Updates
Windows XP Security Update for Windows XP (KB923414) 11 October 2006 Automatic Updates

Punk ^^^^^^ This is the bad boy!!!

Thanks. All works now.

p.s. I've always had SP2, and always updated. I don't know why I had to manually update this time but oh well....

Glad to have been able to help FL9...thats the one that worked for me. 🙂

Crashgordon...dont be so quick to criticise...as you can see it was nothing to do with XP Service Pack 2

True,but

SQL Server Feature Pack MSXML 4.0 SP2 Security Update (925672) 11 October 2006 Automatic Updates

is post hoc, ergo propter hoc. If that were truly the problem, then many people would have experienced difficulty prior to October 11th.

gratch38 Guest

many people have expericanced the same error...

Try Googling it crashgordon..you will see its a worldwide issue..

Spain, norway, germany, eastern europe...all the same msxml error.

Words from my contacts in Microsoft is that an msxml component may have been broken prior to he Flightsimx install...but nothing changes the fact that it was an xml error..not a SP2 error.

Anyway...lets enjoy Flightsimx now that the demo is working.

See you in the air CrashG

I found the fix to the msxml4.dll issues.

Open windows explorer..

goto C:\WINDOWS\system32

Look for this file.. msxml4.dll it needs to this verision 4.20.9839.0.

To update this file goto

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=961f3c95-ec4e-4561-ab27-b3180e9139c5&DisplayLang=en

Download this update, run it.

It will say that "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\msxml something file cannot be update".

Click start -> run -> type "regedit" -> scroll through until you find classes "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes"

Everything that has says "Msxml something 4.0" needs have the system permissions.

So the first one is "Msxml2.DOMDocument.4.0". Right click and click permissions.

Click system and make sure there is a check next to Allow"Full Control, Read".

The next file is Msxml2.DSOControl.4.0 make sure there is a check under Allow "Full Control, Read" and so on.

ElvisG Guest

Forgot the last bit of information.

Once all the msxml 4.0 files has their permissions change, rerun the windows msxml download file. If you get any type of error saying you don't have permissions then you missed a msxml 4.0 file that needs the permissions changed.

After that the microsoft msxml download should install fine and then install the simulator.

RonC Guest

Hey thanks for that, found that the update on the link you gave installed no problem. I already found the MSXML4 SP2 update on the MIcrosoft website but this would not instal properly after coming up with an error referencing a not found component at a mem location which was getting pretty frustrating.

My machine is also up to date with auto updates etc but it has teken me 2 days to instal this MS Flight Sim X. I found that as soon as started the instal the installer reserved 500Mb of memory. As my laptop only has 512MB memory it started running slower than a fat bloke in a marathon.

Its not a good advert for MS that you cannot easily get their demo to work!!

Anyway thanks again for the fix 😀

didn`t work for me...instal of msxml went smooth without any problems, and now version is current, but again same 1935 error.....

If you are using the demo forget about the last post in this thread.
It's only supposed to work for the full version.?????
