Ok, the Welsh have won the rugby crown and with all the blood, sweat and tears and as the rumours have it copious consumption of intoxicating beverages... they bloody well deserve it!!!
Group Wave Group Wave Group Wave

Nobody said that the 'Sport Thread' should be confined to Rugby... right?
So why not turn our attention to our brothers, those who are rightly referred to as pilots and at times have to endure more G forces in an hour or so than many fighter pilots: The F1 Pilots.

As far as the Welsh F1 pilots are concerned... my lips are sealed. But hey, a Scottish brother by the name of David Coulthard deserves to represent the Welsh Dragons in F1 methinks. Oh yes, there are Jensen Button and the new whiz kid Lewis Hamilton (I do don my hat in respect Lewis), but DC is the Gentleman with all the experience, cheekiness and charm the Welsh deserve. Granted, he's never been world champion, but his credentials are impressive. Google.

During the first race of the season in Australia, Felipe Massa gave a nudge or ran into or took out DC (was asleep when it happened... I know, I know, shame on me), point being that DC wasn't impressed to put it mildly: "I admit I did the same thing to Alex [Wurz] last year, but I admitted it and apologised. He had better. If he doesn't, I'll knock three colours of shit out of the little bastard ".
David Coulthard, 2008, after tangling with Felipe Massa.

I bet DC had a big chuckle when Massa ended up in the kitty litter sometime after the first pit stop.

United Statesians who don't know much about F1 might know the name Sebastian Bourdais from the Champ Car World Series. He was champion 5 times I think, correct me if I'm wrong. The best Champ Car driver ever. Well he's now an F1 pilot for the Toro Rosso team. Sadly in this recent Malaysian GP he spun out in the first corner I think and he ain't too happy about it. Mind you, Toro Rosso has never been one of the top teams at least as far as my memory goes, so I think SB accepts that he's on a learning curve and that hopefully he'll be able to score a better ride within the next two or three seasons. I think he's 29, which is relatively old to come into F1, but he does have pedigree. BTW, David Coulthard is presently the oldest pilot in the field at the age of only 37.

Well, I could go on forever... it's going to be an exciting season for sure. My money is, as it was last year on Kimi the Iceman. Last season Kimi won by one point Shocked , there can't be any closer contest and his victory was contested for some time due to the usual politics and other crap involved in sports involving big dollars. For this season however I predict that Kimi will come out way on top... though don't think for a moment that the season will be boring.
I expect a fierce battle between Alonso and Hamilton (face saving business and a bit of the good old vindictiveness Devil ). The BMWs seem to have pace, so do the Toyotas. Kubica is hot and focused... and poor old Mark Webber has actually finished a race, no, no DNF this time. It was last or the previous season that he had 14 DNFs out of 18 races Shocked ...and in my humble opinion, the guy is a very decent pilot. Plenty of excitement, Heidfeld, Kovaleinen, Rosberg... and what I'm most curious about is how Bourdais is going to adapt.

Who said being a pilot was boring?

This does seem to be developing into an interesting season, i wonder if Hamilton can take the pressure of his second season. He was'nt expected to do so well in the last but having done so the expectation for this year is huge. I think it's all going to come down to driving (at last Very Happy ), now that they've taken away launch control, traction control and the braking thingy Rolling Eyes , Kimi made a lot of mistakes in the first race and i wonder if he was having difficulty with the new system, but he seemed to have no problem this week!
I did'nt know about Bourdais but i'l keep an eye on him in the next race Very Happy !

I think what happened to Kimi in the first race was a bad grid... 14 or something like that, engine failure or problems of some sort during quallies. I would have expected all pilots to struggle with the new restrictions - lack of traction control in particular. But as you say Welshflyer, Kimi didn't seem to have a problem in Malaysia. That, in my opinion, is simply because he's an ace. He can adapt to new rules and regulations faster than any other pilot or at least as fast as the rest.
Now, once the dust has settled and all drivers have accustomed themselves to the new game it's gonna get really hot. If the news are anything to go by, Hamilton is already practicing for Bahrain on a French highway where he shouldn't and in a car in which he shouldn't be practicing:

    ...again Shocked

    The Bahrain race:

    Race Date: 06 Apr 2008
    Number of Laps: 57
    Circuit Length: 5.412 km
    Race Distance: 308.238 km
    Lap Record: 1:30.252 - M Schumacher (2004)
