Go PROFollowing the Colorado River across northern Arizona, this sheet spans the Grand Canyon from the Lake Mead area in the west to the high desert and plateau country east of the main gorge. Its narrow north–south footprint keeps the canyon corridor central, while also taking in the surrounding rims, tributary canyons and broad uplands on both sides.
The defining feature is the abrupt contrast between deeply incised canyon terrain and the elevated plateaux beyond it. Western desert country gives way eastwards to a more extensive maze of cliffs, side canyons and exposed high ground. The sheet is particularly well shaped for routes tracing the Colorado or crossing between the North and South Rim country, where modest map distances can span pronounced changes in terrain.
At roughly 157 nautical miles wide and 70 nautical miles tall, the chart has a strongly east–west format. It has no adjoining chart of the same type, so its coverage forms a single, purpose-shaped view of the Grand Canyon region.
