A gameplay demonstration with audio commentary of Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Get That Jet, a Flash game that involves throwing around a paper airplane. Video by GCDotNet.
Hello. My name is Nathaniel Hoover. I'm a staff writer for GameCola.net and author of the column Flashflood in which I look at different Flash games and animations and do silly reviews about them. This is one of the very first games that I ever reviewed for Flashflood. So enjoy some paper airplane tossing?
Here is how it works. You grab the plane and you sway it around with your mouse. Nothing too difficult here. Then, as soon as you toss it across that red dotted line, it'll take off and just fly. Fly. Oh, okay. It does not fly so well unless you whip it across with the mouse. Just a little pansy floop isn't going to get you anywhere.
So, ooh, close call and out the window no less. A little loop-d-loop, this is, ooh, a close call there too, almost went down the chimney. Paper plane thinks he is Santa Claus. No. Let's see how far this thing can go. Oh, a playground, but no children. Yes. It's a beautiful landscape out here. It looks just like any cityscape with a park in the middle I've ever seen with those cardboard cutout trees making you think they actually have real nature there.
Oh, and I get greeted by an airplane for my magnificent 63 some odd meters, feet, kilometers. Ooh, shredded paper airplane. Let's try that again a little bit lower. Bonk. Okay, that did not work either. Yeah, as you can kind of tell, you need to be very careful about how you aim. So it's the right balance of where you launch it from and how much power you give it.
This will not get you anywhere. Oh, it kind of sounds like... You ever hear that They Might Be Giants song called "Spider"? [song noises 00:01:53] That one? You know that one right? You do not know that one? Yeah. Okay, got shredded again. Now here's what I am doing. There's a neat trick with this game. It's sort of a glitch where if you drag your airplane to the far left side, take your mouse entirely outside of the playing field. Swing it around to the other side, to the right side, and then bring the mouse in.
Your plane will launch at crazy high speeds in the general direction of where your mouse is pointing on the other side, as though you threw it as fast as you possibly could. Hah. That will usually get you some really good distance here. This, well, there was a little too much up and not quite enough over. So, yeah, it's not going to get me too terribly far here.
But if you are very careful, if you know what you're doing, give it a lot of tries, you'll eventually get some really long distance flights in here, and I think this game keeps going indefinitely. You can just fly forever, nice. Of course, I don't get a global rank or even a tip here, but that's because I don't have any cookies right now, because if I'm not mistaken, this game puts a cookie on your computer and then it will track your high scores. That was stupid.
It'll track your high scores, except I've been feeling sick recently, and so I tossed my cookies, and now I don't have any high scores recorded. But I think we're making history here with a high score. Come on. Hold your fingers, cross your breath, we're going to do it this time. We're going to break the - whatever it is that we're breaking, but it's going to be huge. Very nice, pleasant little landing here, 71, 72, 73, 74, 75. That is not nearly the best score I've ever done. But it's better than the other one.
That's good enough of a demonstration, so let's share this game with a friend, shall we? Ooh, better yet, I can create a league, and that way... Effort, forget it. I'll just keep playing this shameless advertisement - I mean, game on my own. Bye.
