Editorial

Do you ever find yourself flying at night in FSX and wondering why the sky lacks so much life? Given that we spend a huge amount of time in the sky you would think it would make sense to have a star-filled sky that does everything it can to sell the beauty of the world around us in the best way that it can. For those like myself who found the old textures and styles to be bland and sometimes rather awful, this new set might be just what you are looking for.

This utility, AutoStar 1.01, adds a nice new layer of features to the sky so that it can shine with the brightness that any sky should. The new features added to the night sky will ensure that you are left with something truly authentic that ensures planets will be much brighter in the distance and that the position of the plants is in line with the date. Also, you’ll even get to see things like a Messier object or even an eclipse take part!

You’ll also get to see meteors shooting on by, adding another beautiful layer of detail to your usage of FSX. I hated the old bland screens and this does everything that it can to add another great little addition to the game, ensuring that your skies at night are now a delight instead of a dull an dreary nightmare.

Indeed, all of this works to ensure that you can easily capture the data from the SOA Star Catalogue which will ensure that the number of stars in the background has been included. The depth and detail of this little add-on might not seem like much but it changes so much about the sky and adds that extra bit of atmosphere.

We all love to fly around in something that represents the real world, but it’s even more fun when you can get access to this wonderful world of FSX thanks to a new sky. The sky now looks far more than the sum of its parts, adding another little layer of realism to the whole thing whilst also making sure you can enjoy the stars.

It’s accurate, it looks great and it’s brutally authentic – if you need help in making the sky look fresh and exciting again then I would recommend that you give this a try. It’s easy to install and can be working in a matter of moments to totally change the way that your skies look from now on.

Congratulations. I have been using AutoStar for years in FSX and P3Dv4 and enjoyed the beautiful and perfect night skies produced. Now, I have gone to P3Dv5. and would like to know if AutoStar is compatible. Thanks and keep up the good job.

I don`t fly aircraft to look at planets and don't think flight simulator even brags about looking at stars much.

Unfortunately it seems that a .dll file is missing. I get an error message every time I try to run the .exe file.

I thought de stars in FSX a bit unreal compared to the real world stars and so, I wanted a little bit more real stars when flying in the night. I found AutoStar X on the internet forums and decided to try it myself. It works indeed! My computer runs with Win7 64 bit. Two things: I got an error report about a missing MVSVD50.DLL. The missing DLL can be downloaded via de Microsoft Support/download webpages. The second thing is, I had to run the program as an administrator, otherwise the program will not overwrite de Star.dat file in FSX (back up the original Star.dat file!)

I have now flow and tried AuroStar X and I am very happy with it. Do not expect a high res star field, but it is very close to what you see in reality. The visible planets can also be seen. They are constructed out of dots and the more dots ( >3) will make it bigger and better to see, but then you might see the dots easier! So, 3 or 2 is better.

You don't have to capture the most recent SOA Star Cataloge, for the one in the program is current and gives the stars as we can see them.
