Editorial

Having spent a lot of time in helicopters recently, I was pointed to try out this mod to see what it could offer in terms of making my FS2004 feel nice and exciting again. All of my recent helicopter journeys were on FSX, so I took this remake of the Bell 430 up to see what I thought – it was massively impressive!

The package itself was loaded with extras to use including multiple liveries to pick from that looked excellent and all had a very high level of detail for a simulator that’s more than a decade old. The best livery that they included had to be the Medivac style, but you also got an awesome looking Police Department style which was based on the New York model – very cool!

I used this package on FS2004 and really enjoyed it, finding that it was smooth and a big improvement over the basic selections. I then used the FSX edition that was included later on and found that it had every bit as good a level of performance as the majority of helicopter downloads out there. Smooth, authentic and realistic in design and function, this was one of the more impressive models that I have used in some time.

The virtual cockpit was very well done, too. it’s always nice to see this remade in an authentic manner and to ensure that it can be brought together in the most comfortable fashion possible – this virtual cockpit is full of information and detail but it also has a lot of useful features included that you may not have considered using before in the past.

The package itself is very well made and the external views that are included also make a great difference to being able to enjoy the style and format of the aircraft in all of its guises. If you want to see it from various angles then you can use these to get a better view of what’s going on, as well as take in the very well designed model and style in general.

I found that performance wise it was also very true to the part, as well. It was nice and fast and had plenty about it, although it still managed to give me a fair amount of challenge in getting it going – it certainly felt realistic on that point! The overall impression I got from it, though, judging it against what I was able to find myself about the Bell 430, was the fact that that it was very true to the source material.

The general level of consistency and quality throughout the model and its actual flight capabilities is very impressive, and makes a massive difference when you are trying to get to grips with a model. The Bell 430 is obviously very popular so it can be nice to get used to it via the simulator if you are intending on getting one in real life – it will give you plenty of guidance!

You have a few issues. First, the rotor makes trees, buildings, ground details, mission objects, and other aircraft disappear behind it. That could use a little updating. My other 2 issues are more minor, first, you could update the model and graphics a little, making the textures a little finer and more detailed. The Bell 222A on another site would be a good representation of finer graphics for this helicopter, lastly, the sound doesn't change pitch based on engine rpm or operation. Keep the sound, but make it so it changes with the throttle. if you could do that, that would be great.

Would like to see Airwolf, even though it was not an actual working condition as it was portrayed to be on the tv show it was still cool looking and badass on the hit tv show.
